The Harry Barton Column.
Let me introduce myself. I'm twenty-three, a professional race driver with big feet, and my ambition is to finish Le Mans, at some point within the next four years. Today I'd say I'm half way up the ladder, fifty per cent there. Licence-wise it's all good, and by the end of August I'll have added the valuable Nurburgring qualification to my portfolio. In the world of modern GT racing, nothing comes close to racing around this iconic fourteen mile challenge. And having that stamped twice as a finisher on a piece of paper is gold. Top teams look for this before anything else. In the meantime, I'm racking up track time by doing the Uk based Britcar Championship in a BMW M3 prepared by Geoff Steel Racing.
Next event is Donington 9 August. From Donington it's straight to Germany and a round of the incredibly competitive NLS Championship. Then, to finish the month I'm racing the Barton Racing Lister Storm at Silverstone. More about this later, except to say, last month I had the privilege of demonstrating same car at Goodwood Festival of Speed. Wow! That was some experience.
You can follow my progress via various social media platforms and via www.barton-racing.com. Better still, come and support the team, maybe at Silverstone where the Lister Storm will be appearing exactly twenty four years after it took pole in that years FIA GT Championship.
