1973 LOTUS ELAN

Editor-in-Chief recognises number plate

Malcolm Rickets and ELA 111 - Nant Melai regularity, Three Castles 2010
Having taken pictures of this Elan on the Three Castles Welsh Classic Trial I just knew I had seen the car before. Sure enough, issue one of Classic and Sportscar, April 1982, featured this fine Lotus in its Sports Car Profile series. Even more, it is still owned by Malcolm Ricketts who purchased the car in kit form, new, in 1973. That is thirty-seven years ago. Not bad. Re the number plate, he paid £500 for it out of the Sunday Times, quite a lot then but very cheap by today’s standards.

Malcolm was quoted at the time as saying, “Even if the house fell down or the taxman left me without a penny, I would still keep the Elan.”

Don’t know about the house or the taxman but he’s still got the car.
